This is now one of my favorite books on Java which I am probably going to read again just to be sure I have soaked up as much information as I can. I'm reading an excellent book on concurrency called Java Concurrency in Practice by Brian Goetz. I recently read Java Concurrency in Practice by Brian Goetz. Bill Pugh once wrote that Reference.referent should be volatile to prevent a data race, but jdk1.6 source shows it is not. The memory model docs and Java Concurrency in Practice (Brian Goetz, et al) are silent on this. Every Java programmer must read it.
